epnn_brussels – Cecilia Malmström, Commissioner for Home Affairs, launched the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN) which aims to counter violent extremism, on 9th September 2011 in Brussels.

RAN is based on the EU Internal Security Strategy in Action, which was adopted on November 2010 by the Commission. The Network aims to connect key actors in this issue across Europe.

The purpose of the Network is to identify good practices and to promote the exchange of information and experiences.

It will be supported by an online-forum and EU-wide conferences established by the Commission.

The Network is to include contact with social workers, religious leaders, youth leaders, researchers and others who work on the ground in vulnerable communities.
