Church and Society Convener, Rev. Ian Galloway, is calling for leading supermarket chains to actively consider their ethical and corporate responsibilities ensuring consumers can make an informed choice about the products they buy.

In May 2011 the Church of Scotland’s General Assembly repeated a call for clear labelling of products from the occupied Palestinian territory.

The purpose of this is to ensure British consumers can shop with confidence and the understanding that the products come from either an illegal Israeli settlement on Palestinian land, Israel, or from Palestinians in the West Bank.

According to Rev. Ian Galloway: “An informed consumer can then make a choice not to support the economy of a political reality that they do not agree with.”
